The UK's leading organisation that trains and provides mental health assistance dogs
for current and former members of the British Armed Forces
We understand the difficulties people face when starting a new life after leaving the military.
Finding work, somewhere to live, a purpose, and a place in society, can feel overwhelming.
Help for Heroes is the leading Armed Forces and veterans’ charity in the UK. With your support, we can help our veterans and their families live well after service.
Every year Forces Law offers training sessions to its members on matters that directly affect those who serve, have served and their families. This enables us, to work with the most up to date information available. We also encourage our Member Firms to employ service leavers, Veterans and families of those who serve as this gives those Firms first-hand knowledge of service life.
We are doing this by working with local and national organisations such as University of Cumbria and Royal British Legion to find out what support they offer, then meeting the ex-service community through things like breakfast clubs and regimental association meetings to tell them about the opportunities available. In doing this we can identify any gaps and work with the organisations and the ex-service community to help fill them and provide the best support possible.
We are here to support LGBT+ Veterans, serving personnel and their families, particularly those who were affected by the ‘gay ban’, ultimately lifted on 12th January 2000. Before then, thousands of LGBT+ service personnel were removed or forced from service and abandoned, after serving with pride. In the years ahead it is our aim to restore the military covenant and bring this community back into the military family.
MECC is an approach to behaviour change that utilises the millions of day to day interactions that organisations and people have with other people to encourage changes in behaviour that have a positive effect on the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities and populations.
